The 1952 Berk Ross baseball card set is a fascinating and often overlooked issue from the golden era of baseball cards. Unlike the mainstream Topps and Bowman sets of the time, Berk Ross cards were produced in panel form (hence the perforated edges) and featured a wide array of stars from both the American and National Leagues. The artwork resembles photographs, but with a distinctive grainy quality that adds to their vintage charm.
This example—featuring the key card in the set, Mickey Mantle—appears to be in pack-fresh condition. About two decades ago, a single 120-pack box was discovered. Many of those packs were opened, likely accounting for the high-grade examples in the market today.
The only factor holding this card back from grading higher is the centering—top to bottom (or left to right, depending on your perspective!). Interestingly, the 1952 Berk Ross Mantle card uses the exact same pose as his iconic 1951 Bowman rookie card.
